Solidification Morphologies of Monotectic Alloys

Monotectic and peritectic solidification represent an emerging area of research. The monotectic reaction is observed in a wide class of alloys exhibiting a miscibility gap in the molten state. The liquid decomposition at the monotectic reaction front, into a solid and a liquid, is subject to convection, even in microgravity, due to Marangoni effects. The goal of this project is to obtain a thorough theoretical understanding of monotectic solidification morphology.
