Numerical and Experimental Studies of Instabilities in Lean Gas Phase Combustion.

The objective of the team is to study the instabilities of lean gas phase combustion under microgravity conditions using numerical simulations, and to compare the obtained results with in-flight experimental data. The goal is to obtain fundamental insight into the intrinsic chemical and fluid dynamic processes involved in combustion. The team anticipates that the results will be of importance for chemical engineering and for power generation.
