Microencapsulation (Cells to Drugs)This team's activities will focus on the development of microencapsulation technology. Microencapsulation is important in biotechnology/biomedicine for optimising the controlled release of drugs and for cell protection. Microgravity studies will further the understanding of interfacial transfer, and especially, of interfacial turbulence (emulsion/solvent extraction and solvent evaporation). They will also help to improve the control of membrane porosity and homogeneity (polyelectrolyte coacervation techniques), and will be of massive importance to many areas of life.
